Dopenation; The twin revolution in Ghanaian music


THE MUSIC industry usually sees new talents pop up every now then as they normally come in as either solo artistes or in groups, instrumental among these new crop of talents currently furnishing the Ghanaian music scene  with quality music is the duo Dopenation.

The group which is made up of twins Michael Boafo popularly known as B2 and Tony Boafo (Twist) had carved a niche for themselves at their tertiary education level; University of Ghana (UG) and Ghana Technical University College (GTUC) respectively before their breakthrough.

As producers for  Shatta Wale’s hit song  ‘Kpuukpaa’  Dopenation’s works have been massively accepted and hailed by music enthusiasts in the country, they have production credits to Joey B’s ‘Wow’ and ‘Sebgefia’, Ebony’s ‘Poison’,  Pappy Kojo’s ‘Nana Ama’ etc

“Apart from our special talents as song writers and music producers, we sing and rap as well which we believe proves our versatility; we are musicians in a whole” The duo said in an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE.

They added that “Doing music has been the dream since infancy,our zeal to achieve greater heights with music has always been our form of inspiration and has kept us going.”

Explaining the meaning of ‘Dopenation’ the twins said that it is a group of young innovative individuals who posses extraordinary talent with the aim of building an empire to harbor great talents like theirs.

Twist and B2 have demonstrated their singing and lyrical prowess by releasing ‘Another One’ which features Gemini and ‘3b3 y3d3’. Their current single ‘Uh Huh’ is currently receiving an overwhelming airplay.

Dopenation is working on an Extended Play (EP) which will be ready for release in 2018, the duo is also preparing to release a single with 2016 VGMA artiste of the year E.L later in this year.
