THE TREASURER for the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTTF), Mr William Asare, has said that the Chairman’s Cup to be played on Saturday at the D.G Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports will be used to select players for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.
He told the DAILY HERITAGE in Accra yesterday that the Chairman’s Cup, which is held annually to honour the president of the GTTF, will bring table tennis players from the country’s regions to showcase their skills and also win the ultimate trophy.
“Cash prizes ranging from GH₵2000.00 to GH₵500.00 for the men and GH₵ 1,800.00 to GH₵500.00 for the women would be given to distinguished players who place from first to the fourth positions with souvenirs from Travel Man Company respectively,” he said.
The one-day knockout competition, as of yesterday, had seen 61 table tennis players registered but Mr Asare said he was confident that by the close of Friday the number of registered participants would have increased to 200.
He said Mr Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, and Mr Baffoe Bonney, the former president of GTTF and Chief Advisor would be attending as special guests.
