E/R to get six modern libraries

AN INVESTMENT company, 9BS International, is to construct six modern community libraries in some districts in the Eastern Region to improve the culture of reading to enhance the academic performance of students.

According to a speech read on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, by the Director of Pre –Tertiary, Catherine -Appiah Pinkrah, assessment by the Ministry at the basic education level indicated that less than 2% of pupils in class two could read.

He attributed the worrying trend in the education sector to poor reading habits among students.

The library project, to be fully funded by 9BS International, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility for the Eastern Region, is expected to be completed within a year.

The investment agreement was signed between the Regional Coordinating Council and the Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.

Also to be constructed are 10 boreholes and four community clinics in 20 districts in the region.

At a durbar to launch the project in Koforidua, the Executive Chairman of 9BS Group of Companies, Mr Wabadang Vairi, said 9BS International, though a business entity, believes in holistic development which goes with wealth, health and improved living standards, hence the interventions.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfuor, expressed optimism that the partnership with 9BS International would lead to economic transformation in the region and reduce unemployment among the youth.
