Agona East BECE candidates assure MP of excellent performance

AGONA EAST Basic Examination Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates have assured the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, that they would pass this year’s examination with excellent grades.

The school children said their assurance was based on the fact that they had received a lot of support and encouragement from the MP and also believed they and their teachers had done their part towards the BECE.

The students told the MP this on Monday when she went round the eight examination centres to cheer the children up and also give the children food as she has annually been doing since she became an MP.

As if planned, the children at all the centres spontaneously poured out in jubilation when they saw Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, who is commonly known as Obaatanpa in her constituency.

As always, Obaatanpa is serving over 2,000 candidates with free packed lunch each day from Monday, June 4 till Friday, June 8, when the BECE ends.

The MP does this following a menu over the years. For this year, the children took rice and vegetable stew with chicken on Monday, followed with jollof rice and boiled egg on Tuesday, saffron rice and mutton stew on Wednesday, plain rice and palava sauce on Thursday, and omotuo (rice balls) and groundnut soup on Friday.

Ms Pokuah Sawyerr herself served some of the children their food and assured all children in her constituency of her support for quality education.

“You are the country’s future, so some of us are ever prepared to see to it that you get the needed support for preparation for your future endeavours. Therefore be good children and follow all that you need to learn to achieve your targeted professions,” the Agona East MP said.

A representative of the candidates said, “Obaatanpa, we are filled with joy that this year too, as usual, you came to our schools to advise us and today and the next four days you are giving us lunch. We promise to come out with flying colours and that your relentless efforts will not be in vain.

“We pray for God’s guidance to see us through till Friday.”

Some of the BECE centres Ms Pokuah Sawyerr visited were Nsaba Senior High School (SHS), Kwanyako SHS, Namanwura SHS, Asafo AEDA School, and Mankrong Nkwanta AEDA School.
