There was high enthusiasm among BECE candidates in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region as the Member of Parliament for the area ,Thomas Ampem Nyarko fulfils promise of serving each BECE candidate with a meal,drinks,bottle water and fruits.
A total of 1731 made up of one physically challenge candidate who wrote the exams were served with the meal each day throughout the exams period.
A visit to the seven examination centers in the Asuogyaman district by Daily Heritage noted excitements on the faces of the students over the MP’s intervention.
According to some Examination Supervisors , the intervention helped to reduce the absenteesm rate among candidates this year in the district.
The Asuogyaman MP,Thomas Ampem Nyarko told the Daily Heritage, the provision of meals for the candidates was part of the several intervention including the institution of MP’s mock exams and provision of exercise books and mathematical sets for students ,ostensibly to up performance of students in BECE.
“as DCE we did alot to improve academic performance of the students but we are still not content with the performance so as MP now,i want to do my possible best to clear all barriers that affect the performance of students.The provision of the meals to the BECE candidates with some support from Connecting Kids for Education foundation who provided the take away pack, is to ensure that no candidate write the exams with hunger or sit at home because parents could not provide feeding fee “.
Some of the candidates speaking Daily Heritage were elated by the intervention of the MP adding, it has reduced the hassle for food during the exams because most of their parents couldn’t provide at least Ghc5 each day for both transportation and food.
A total of 46,993 candidates made upbof 24,512 males and 22,481 females are expected to wite the BECE exams in the Eastern Region.
