GIS unveils Strategic Plan Implementation C’ttee

THE COMPTROLLER-GENERAL (CG) of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, has inaugurated a ten-member Committee for the implementation of the Service’s five-year Strategic Plan of the GIS at its National Headquarters in Accra.

The CG charged the committee to discharge its duties efficiently, and ensure all deliverables in the plan see the light of day. He added that the successful implementation of the plan would satisfactorily actualize the vision of the GIS to deliver excellence in security and migration management for national development.

“Let us keep up to the goal of making the GIS a formidable and foremost institution in Migration and Security Management in the sub-region, collaborating with neighbouring countries to fight terrorism and other trans-national crimes,” he noted.

Mr Takyi asked the committee to pay attention to some of the key areas of the plan, such as infrastructure and equipment, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), adding that these would speed up and enhance the computerization of the GIS operations as well as meet the residential and office accommodation needs of the Service.

He indicated that “I will keep you on your toes and give you the necessary pressure to ensure that you stay active, alert, and focused on the task ahead of you.”

The Chairman of the Committee, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCI) Eric Afari, on behalf of its members, assured the CG of their diligence and commitment to the realization of the plan and that they would ensure that all timelines for the implementation processes are met.

The plan, which was launched last week by the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) seeks to address six thematic areas of the Service — Human Resource; Equipment and Infrastructure; Laws and Policies; Information and Communication Technology; Stakeholder Relations; and Finance and Funding.

Members of the Implementation Committee include DCI Abofra, DCI Evelyn Lotsu, DCI Maud Quainoo, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration(ACI) Faisal Disu, ACI Bansantale, ACI Kojo Oppong Yeboah, ACI Adwoa Sika, ACI Edith Penelope and Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta.

At the same ceremony, six sub-committees were also formed to assist the main Committee in the implementation of the plan under the six thematic areas.
