THE 31st National Farmers Day celebration on the theme “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development” has been launched on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in Accra.
Speaking at the launch on behalf of the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD), the Deputy Minister Hon. Francis Kinsley Ato Codjoe said the fisheries sector was not only a major source of employment for majority of Ghanaians but also a provider of needed raw materials to feed industry.
He indicated t…hat MoFAD will continue to implement policies, programms and strategies to transform the sector and improve the capacity of small scale fishers and fish farmers.
This, he said included the enhancement and provision of extension services delivery to small scale fish farmers to equip them with the necessary technical knowledge and skills on site selection, pond and cage construction, water quality management, fish disease detection and prevention, and post-harvest handling.
Under the Fisheries input Support Scheme, Hon. Francis Ato Codjoe noted government will continue to provide fishers with the necessary fishing inputs and gears such as prescribed fishing nets to eliminate the use of illegal nets, hook and line and outboard motors and also through the National Premix Fuel Secretariat continue to make Premix fuel available to fishers to boost their operations.
This year’s Farmers Day celebration will be held at Ho in the Volta Region.
