THE ‘AGAPE Fam Care 2019’ an initiative under the Agape Link International has ended by “expressing love and care” to the aged and widows within the Anyano Community in the Western Region through health screening and gifts.

The exercise powered by the Agape Link International saw over 500 people benefitted and the nature of  attendance, has been described by the organisers as “very impressive.”

Rev Abraham Opoku, the president of the Agape Link International told the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview that the Agape Fan Care 2019 was “to express love to the aged and widows” within the communities it operates.

“It’s about expressing love to the aged and widows of the Anyano community through health screening and education, provision of food and giving away of gifts,” Rev Opoku noted.

IMPRESSIVE  ATTENDANCE

Touching on attendance, he said it was “very impressive” and that “people came from other four villages to join the exercise.”

According to Rev Opoku, a total of 500 people were screened.

“We initially was caring for widows and aged in the Anyano community, however, people from Abura, Nyamebekyere, Adjumako and Egyambra came to the programme,” he added.

AGED, WIDOW “TRADITION” OF NEGLECT

Asked what informed the choice of the aged and widows, he said “Widows and aged because mostly they are neglected due to the tradition and cultural perception towards these group of people.”

For that matter, “we do this for them to realise there is hope for them and God cares for them.”

The president explained that “this is not the first time” they were organising such exercise but “this project started back in 2010 when I was in the University of Development Studies in the Upper East Region, Navrongo.

“We did donation at Sirigu Children Home (three times), Navrongo War Memorial Hospital (Childrens Ward), First Generation Orphanage, Bolgatanga.”

SHOW MORE LOVE

But was quick to assert that the first community project “we did was in 2017, continued in 2018 and this year 2019.”

“As we done with this, we are preparing for the next year’s (2020) programme, which would take place in another community.

Rev Opoku howeve urged “humanity to express love towards one another and is the only means we can experience the love of God towards man.

“We will also seek support from everyone, as we do not have any organization that supports these activities” he concluded.
