A ROYAL of the Asamankese Stool, Barima Pobi Asomaning, has appealed to persons who are claiming legitimacy to the Asamankese Palace to ceasefire until such time that matters will resolved before a new chief could be installed.
While appealing to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Interior minister, the National Security, the Eastern Regional Minister and the National Peace Council to come in to help resolve matters, Barima Asomaning, who is also the Chief of Aworasa, said “Asamankese is not entitled to install a chief until the matter is resolved.”
In a press statement issued and copied to the DAILY HERITAGE, Barima Asomaning, also called on the the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Chieftaincy and all stakeholders to intervene in the Asamankese Chieftaincy dispute.
He said, “Anyone that purports himself as the legitimate Chief of Asamankese must be disregarded and treated with much contempt.”
The Chief of Aworasa in the Asamankese Traditional Area said he and others been patient enough respecting the ruling by the Judicial Committee of Akyem Abuakwa and Koforidua High Court, which declared the Asamankese stool as vacant.
He claimed the current occupants of the stool defied the court order after the court held that none of the competing parties should occupy the stool until the right traditional processes had been followed to enstool a substantive Chief.
Barima Asomaning said the Abrade Royal Family believes in the rule of law, hence had not taken the laws into their own hands, expecting that the Gyaasehene, who is the Regent, would initiate processes for the installation of a substantive Chief of Asamankese.
According to him, one Kwasi Obeng, the son of Obaapanin Akosua Birikoramaa, (Queenmother of Asamankese) is currently carrying himself as the Chief of Asamankese, something he blamed on the Gyaasehene for not protecting the stool as was expected of him.
This, he said, would no longer be tolerated, calling on the Interior Minister and the Security agencies to intervene to ensure the Palace is locked up to avert any violence.
The statement further stated that the said installation of Obeng was not at the instance of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, and that the Chairman who sat on the case before the Regional House of Chiefs openly condemned the fake gazette of the said Kwasi Obeng.
The press statement noted that the chairman of the research committee that is responsible for the issuance of a legitimate Gazette to a Chief in the region said he had no idea about the fake gazette claimed by Kwesi Obeng and therefore declared the said gazette to Obeng as null and void.
