HUMAN rights lawyer and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Madina Constituency, Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu, has donated 1,500 textbooks to some basic schools in the La Nkwantanang Madina municipality.
The textbooks cover mathematics, science and English. The beneficiary schools included the Pantang Methodist Basic School, Oyarifa Presby Basic School, Ayi Mensah Basic School, Danfa Methodist Basic School, Madina Fire Amour and Umar Budu Hatab in Madina West.
In an interview with the media, Mr Sosu said education was key on his agenda for Madina, hence the gesture. He recounted how education had turned him from a street child into a prominent human rights and public interest lawyer. He added that as part of his educational plans for the municipality, he would replace all blackboards in the public schools with white marker boards and regularly supply the schools with markers.
The Parliamentary Candidate also promised to establish an educational scholarship scheme for needy but brilliant students. “To motivate and encourage teachers, I shall introduce a special annual awards scheme for those in the municipality,” Lawyer Sosu stated. Both teachers and pupils showed appreciation to Lawyer Sosu for the kind gesture and wished him well in his aspiration to represent the constituency in Parliament.
The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Angela Nkansah Frempomaa, also commended Lawyer Sosu for his effort and urged others to emulate his good example.
